If you are a current caregiver of a child at our school, or you are looking for a prospective school for your child, or you are simply browsing, thanks for taking the time to have a look around the website.
We look forward to working with our children and families this year. Please feel free to make contact – your feedback is appreciated.
SIS is a school “on the up”. The Education Review Office (2008) praised our pupil safety systems, school culture and tone, student engagement in learning. Our bilingual classrooms, literacy support programmes, and special needs systems have also received particular praise.
To improve student outcomes 1n 2012 our “Big Six” focus areas are:
1 Student Achievement – via the New Zealand Curriculum (See it here)
2 Improving our ability to measure and report on achievement of students against the national standards in literacy and numeracy
3 Maori and Pasifika Achievement – The Ministry of Education require all schools to measure and repoort on achievement of Maori and Pasifika pupils
4.Positive behaviour for Learning – We are privileged to be part of a three year Ministry of Education initiative aimed at building school cultures which are most conducive to learning
5 Building Community – The saying “It takes a village to raise a child” is at the heart of this goal. We aim to make our school a part of the community, and the community a part of our learning programme in order that pupils are well connected to their learning community
6 Teacher Inquiry – This involves teachers actively reflecting on aspects of their teaching practice in the light of recent research. While all teachers are fully registered, the research on “best practice” continues. Our teachers want to be experts.
With these six focus points we will be doing our very best to improve student learning and social outcomes.
Our manageable school roll (between 260 to 320 in recent years) ensures that children are more than “numbers”, providing opportunity for many to be leaders.
We are enjoying the excitement and adventure of the learning journey.
